Finno Exergy Completes Simulations With Engine OEM

Finno Exergy and engine OEM have finalized first simulations of the 10 MW scale gas turbine operating with retrofitted pressure gain combustors. The simulations show very promising 15% overall efficiency increase, which is in line with the earlier estimations. With this level of efficiency increase, a 10 MW scale gas turbine could save 2.5 MEUR per year in fuel costs.

Despite of the pulsating air flow, the turbine and the compressor were also shown to be able to operate well close to their designed operating points with high efficiency. This is important because decreasing turbine and compressor efficiency may cancel out the efficiency increase introduced by the combustor.

The result confirms the viability of Finno Exergy’s plan to retrofit existing gas turbines with PGC technology.
